System requirements

Everything that touches your code runs in your browser or on your desktop. What a given device can do depends on its browser, its memory and its GPU. This table is the honest version, including what is not there yet.

PlatformNeedsWhat you get today
Chrome / Edge, desktop64-bit; 4 GB RAM for OIOXO Light, 8 GB for Prime or a 3B open model; ~2 GB free disk per model. WebGPU where the browser has it.The full room. On-device models on CPU or GPU, Open folder in place, Preview, Changes, Git through the proxy, TypeScript / Python / CSS / HTML / JSON language services. CPU-only machines work; they are slow.
Firefox, desktopThe same memory; a machine with 8 or more threads runs the CPU tier acceptably. Open-folder-in-place is not available — use Import or Just try it.Everything else, including on-device models.
Safari, macOSYour key only today. The on-device engine does not run on Safari yet; add a key and the rest of the room works.
Android phone (Chrome)8 GB RAM for OIOXO Light (Mobile), ~545 MB download.Watch, prompt, light edits, on-device Light. A companion, not the full IDE.
iPhone / iPadYour key only. Watch, prompt, light edits with a key.
Windows 10 / 11 desktop appx64, 8 GB RAM. For the native tier: an NVIDIA GPU with 6 GB or more VRAM (the CUDA engine, ~484 MB, downloads on first use). AMD and Intel machines run CPU-first.The room plus a real terminal, bundled language plugins, the native GPU tier, self-update.
macOS desktop appApple Silicon or Intel, 8 GB RAM.The room, terminal and language plugins. Models run on the same tiers as the browser today; there is no native Metal engine yet.
LinuxNo installer yet. The web tier in Chrome or Firefox is the full product on Linux.

Disk and storage

Models live in browser storage (OPFS) or the desktop app’s data folder. Settings → Models & keys shows the storage meter and lets you delete a model. Projects marked “in this browser” live in the same private storage — export a zip before clearing site data. A folder on disk is yours on disk.

Note

OIOXO checks the device before offering a model: a model that does not fit in memory is shown but not recommended, and one that cannot fit is not offered. If a download you did not choose ever starts, that is a bug — report it.
